Obituary: Irene D Cawley (June 23, 1921 - June 30, 2006)

Mrs. Irene D (Malick) Cawley, age 85, of Kutztown, Pa., died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Kutztown Manor Nursing Home in Kutztown, Pa.

She was a member of St. Peter's Union Church Macungie, having worked for the former Atlas Powder Co. of Reynolds, Pa., Schuylkill County during WWII. She and her Husband Pierce F. managed the Bowling Alley on Rowe Street in Tamaqua for many years. Mrs. Cawley was a member of the Tamaqua V.F.W. Aux..

Born in Tamaqua, she was the daughter of the late Lester Malick and the late Hattie (Daubenspeck) Malick.

She is also survived by her Son Mr. Bruce F. Cawley & wife Nancy of Fleetwood, Pa.

Two Sisters; Mrs. Marion Neuroth, and Mrs. Pearl Steigerwalt both of Tamaqua, Pa.

Preceded in death by her Husband Pierce F. Cawley in 1998. A brother Robert Malick and one Sister Mrs. Dorothy West Also preceded Irene in death.

Grandson Kevin Rohrback and his wife Cassy Three Great-Grandchildren; Destiny Nagle, Dakota & Christopher Rohrbach

Funeral service will be on ,Thursday 6, 2006 at 11 o'clock AM from the St. Peter's Union Church of MaCungie, with calling the morning of from the church at 10:00 Am until time of services.

Interment will be at St. Peter's Union Church Cemetery of Macungie.

Obituary: Richard I. Gerber (June 5, 1959 - June 29, 2006)

Mr. Richard I. "Grizz" Gerber, age 47, of 1008 Catawissa Road Tamaqua, Pa., died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at St. Lukes Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Pa. He was the husband of April (Dewitt) Gerber and they were married on August 3, 2004.

He was the son of Charles D. Gerber and Ruth M. (Dunn) Gerber of Tamaqua, PA.

Mr. Gerber was employed by Heislers Egg Farm for 8 years as a packer. He was a member of the Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club and a 1979 Graduate of Tamaqua Area High School.

He is also survived by his wife April (Dewitt) Gerber married August 3, 2004.

Flooding in local communities
















Many of the local communities we serve have been hit hard with several days of heavy rainfall. These pictures were taken near our funeral in Tamaqua. Local roads in our area were closed for most of the day today due to rising water levels and potential flooded roads.

Obituary: Mary D. Leisey (August 19, 1919 - June 27, 2006)

Mary D. (Brown) Leisey, age 86, of 268 Archery Club Road, New Ringgold, Pa., died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at her home. She was the wife of the late Fred Leisey who died in 1983.

Mrs. Leisey was a member of Salem Hetzels Lutheran Church in Pine Grove and a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School class of 1937.

Born in Summit Station she was the daughter of the late Samuel Brown and the late Sallie (Schaeffer) Brown.

She is also survived by her

Daughter - Jean D. (Leisey) wife of the late James R. Freed of New Ringgold, Pa with whom she resided.

Obituary: Constant M. Solarczyk (December 15, 1926 - June 27, 2006)

Mr. Constant M. "Connie" Solarczyk, age 79, of 132 West Abbott Street Lansford, Pa., died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Allentown, Pa.

He was the Husband of Mary (Kostelansky) Solarczyk and they were married for 50 years they would have celebrated 51 years together on July 2, 2006.

Born in Summit Hill he was the son of the late Joseph & Mary (Soltys) Solarczyk.

Constant was a member of the United States Coast Guard, after that he was employed by Volkart Manufacturing in Allentown, PA and also headed the maintence department at the Carbon County Court House.

He was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Lansford, attended Summit Hill High School, was a former member of the Summit Hill American Legion, was a avid Dart Player and an avid mushroom picker.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Kostelansky) Solarczyk of Lansford, PA.

Two Sons, Gregory and his wife Bernadette Solarczyk of (Hometown) Tamaqua, Pa.

One Sister, Frances wife of Paul Yurick Sr. of Summit Hill, Pa.

2 Grandsons - Josh Solarczyk and Chris Solarczyk.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Francis Solarczyk and Joseph Solarczyk and a sister Marcella Demetrovic and 2 nephews Brian Firkal and Paul Yurick Jr.

Calling Hours: Thursday June 29, 2006 from 6-9 PM and Friday from 9:00am until time of service at the Holmes-Griffiths Funeral Inc. 200 East Bertsch Street, Lansford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 30, 2006 from St. Michael's Catholic Church in LAnsford, PA at 10 AM with the Reverend Stephen Halabura and Reverend William Nahn officiating.

Mrs. Mary (Llewllyn) Hirsch, age 85, of Pottsville, Pa., died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Schuylkill Center Genisis Elder Care in Pottsville, Pa.

Mrs. Hirsch worked in the Textile Industry , and was a member of the Malino Baptist Church of Hawk Mountain.

She was the daughter of the late Edward Llewellyn and the late Alice (Jenkins) Llewellyn.

She is also survived by her Son-Mr. Charles C Hirsch & his Comapnion Brenda Watkins of Waukesha, Wis.

One Sister, Mrs. Hazel Clarke of Surrey, England

One Brother, Mr. Edward Llewellyn of Olean, N.Y.

Preceded in death by her Husband Charles C. Hirsch December 12, 2004, A Brother Kenneth Llewellyn and a sister Mrs. Violet Dunkelberger.

Charles Chester Hirsch, 87 of 429 Indian Run Road, New Ringgold died 12/12/2004 at the Schuylkill Center in Pottsville, PA. Born in Tamaqua he was the son of the late Chester & Emma (Krause) Hirsch. He was the husband of Mary. I (Llewyellen) Hirsch.

He was a member of the American Hose and New England Valley Fire Companies and was a US veteran having served with the US Army in WWII.

Survivors: Son-Mr. Charles C Hirsch & his Comapnion Brenda Watkins of Waukesha, Wis.

Preceded in death by 2 brothers Jack and William and 1 Sister Elizabeth Klingamen.

Obituary: Wade R. Lechleitner (December 12, 1969 - June 19, 2006)

Mr. Wade R. Lechleitner, age 36, of New Ringgold, Pa., died Tuesday, June 19, 2006, in East Brunswick Twp as the result of a single car accident.

Mr. Lechleitner was employed by Weiss Market as a Produce Clerk in the Wyomissing store.

He was Catholic by faith and a graduate of Blue Mountain High School class of 1989.

Son of the late Paul Lechleitner and Catherine (Strenkoski) Lechleitner with whom he resided.

He is also survived by Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Calling Hours: Saturday from 10-11am from the funeral home.

Funeral Service: 11am from the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home with the Chaplain Joseph D. Galko officiating.

Interment will be at St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery in Tamaqua, Pa.

Mr. Wilbur Derby Heffelfinger, age 65, of 317 West Ridge Street Lansford, Pa., died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at his home.

He is survived by his wife Maureen (Clausius) Heffelfinger of Lansford, PA and they were married for 43 years.

Mrs. Vasilike (Papaioannou) Ziogas, age 104, formerly of Tamaqua, Pa. died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Conestoga View Nursing Home in Lancaster, Pa. .

Born in the town of Mouzaki, Located in the State of Thessaly, Country of Greece, she was the daughter of the late Costas Papaioannou and the late Evangiline Papaioannou.

Preceded in death by her Husband Harry Ziogas December 30, 1972. Harry was a partner of the former Texas Lunch of Tamaqua, Pa.

She is also survived by her Son-James H. Ziogas & wife, Helen of Elizabethtown, Pa.

Deceased Siblings are Brothers; William Papas, Dr. Epaminondas Papas, Alkviadis Papas. Deceased Sisters; Mrs. Penelope Konstas, and Mrs. Amalia Argyropoulou

Grandchildren; Melissa Jones, Harry G. Ziogas and Antonia Ziogas Three Great-Grandchildren; Patrick, Eleni and Katina Jones

Nieces & Nephews also survive her.

She was the daughter of the late Stewart & Blanche (McCarthy) Trent.

Mrs. Rogich was employed by First National Bank of Baltimore and was Baptist by faith.

She was the daughter of the late Stewart Trent and the late Blanche McCarthy.

She was the daughter of the late Claud Heisler and the late Della (Fink) Heisler.

Dorothy is survived by one Daughter, Miss Violet R. Zubey of Tamaqua, Pa., with whom she resided.

One Sister, Mrs. Eleanor Roberts of Tamaqua, Pa. Nieces & Nephews Also Survive her.

Preceded in death by her Husband Albert V. Zubey 1989, and two Sisters Mrs. Marie Evans, and Mrs. Mildred Gallagher.

Obituary: Herman C. Osenbach (February 26, 1922 - June 11, 2006)


Mr. Herman C. Osenbach, age 84, of Summer Valley Road New Ringgold, Pa., died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Wilkes-Barre Veteran's Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

He was a member of Zion's Stone Church of West Penn Twp., New Ringgold, Pa., a 1940 Port Carbon High School Grad., Past Commander and Founding member of the Andreas, V.F.W. Post George S. Patton #5069, and presently served as Sr. Vice Commander.

Herman was an Honorably Discharged U.S. Army Veteran having served in WWII with the 2nd Infantry Division., he fought in the Northern France, The Battle for Normandy, and Rhineland Ardennes. Captured during the Battle of the Bulge, and detained as P.O.W for four months. Herman's decorations and citations included, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Service Star, & Distinguished Unit Badge.. .

Born in West Penn Twp., he was the son of the late Charles Osenbach and the late Maude (Kocher) Osenbach.

He is also survived by his wife of 59 yrs. Mrs. Grace E. (Tiley) Osenbach;

Three Daughters; Mrs. Susan C. Helfrich wife of Willis of Andreas, Pa. Mrs. Debra E. Nothstein wife of Daryl of New Ringgold, Pa., Mrs. Sandra H. Niedospial wife of Frank of New Ringgold, Pa.

Two Sons; Mr. Herman C. Osenbach, Jr. & his wife Carol of Tamaqua, Pa., Mr. Douglas J. Osenbach of New Ringgold, Pa.

Three Sisters; Mrs. Jean Tiley of Easton, Pa., Mrs. Violet Wood wife of Robert of New Ringgold, Pa., Mrs. Dorothy McHugh wife of Francis of New Ringgold, Pa.

Two Brothers; Mr. Bert Osenbach & Mr. Harold Osenbach of New Ringgold, Pa.

Preceded in death by his Sister Mrs. Betty (Osenbach) Snyder.

Eleven Grandchildren & Ten Great Grandchildren.

Herman worked as a Brick Layer for Allied Craftworkers Local #15 of Allentown, Pa.. He and his wife owned and operated Blondie's Restaurant on Route #309 since 1971, and still remained active in it's daily operations.
